Goans in Goa irrespective of caste, creed and religion lived happily and in perfect harmony since last 400 years even under the dictatorial Portuguese regime. Each community relished on their food plate what they liked and what they could afford. Even after Independence /Liberation the Congress which ruled both at the centre and in the state never interfered and dictated the people what faith to profess and what to eat. Today in the name of religion some fanatics mostly from outside state are opposing slaughter of cows, and as a result two minority communities in this state which enjoyed beef on their food plates are facing the brunt both in terms of supply and in terms of affordability and the Government which is elected by us in the name of Parivarthan is not at all concerned.
One can recall that the issue of protection of certain animals started when some animal’s protagonist like Maneka Gandhi succeeded in enacting the Animal Protection Act during the earlier BJP regime. The said law has created enough problems for mankind such as menace of stray dogs and rabies, which elected governments has failed to control. Imagine a situation when all animal corpses are spread all around after their old age death.
The silence of BJP on this issue smacks it as an act of communal polarization for vote bank politics. India is a secular country and the Indian constitution is the bible of governance. It is the duty of the government to make available adequate supplies of all kinds of fruits, vegetables, etc in the markets and take suitable action against trouble makers who try to disrupt normal supply. If you cannot do it than you have no right to seek a further mandate from the people.
All secular minded Goans who lived in perfect communal harmony for past many centuries cannot allow the unique secular identity of Goa and Goans be vitiated by the silence of the Party in power. It is time to show our displeasure through the Zilla elections. I hope all secular Goans will vote for un-attached independent candidates to send the right message.
