The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Tuesday began inspecting an Air India Boeing 787 aircraft after it was grounded over abnormal behaviour of a fuel control switch (FCS) on one engine. The issue was reported by the aircraft commander in the log book after a London–Bengaluru flight. The pilot noted that the left engine FCS slipped from ‘RUN’ to ‘CUT OFF’ and failed to lock in position. Officials said the affected component will be removed with regulator approval and sent to the OEM for detailed analysis. The aircraft will be cleared after an alternate FCS is installed. Following the incident, Air India ordered a precautionary, fleet-wide reinspection of FCS latches on all Boeing 787 aircraft. No irregularities have been detected so far.
