Iran-backed Houthi fighters in Yemen have decided to resume missile and drone attacks on Red Sea shipping routes and against Israel in support of Iran, according to two senior Houthi officials. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity, saying no formal announcement has yet been made by the group’s leadership.
One of the officials indicated that the first strike could occur as soon as “tonight,” signalling a rapid escalation in regional tensions.

The Houthis, formally known as Ansar Allah, had previously halted attacks on international shipping lanes under a deal with the administration of Donald Trump, which also led to a pause in US strikes on Houthi positions. They also stopped launching attacks on Israel following an October ceasefire that reduced major hostilities in Gaza.
The renewed threat raises concerns over maritime security in the Red Sea, a vital global trade corridor, and signals the widening impact of the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict across the region.
