Iran Fires Missile Barrage After US-Israel Strikes; Explosions Rock Gulf

The Middle East slid further into turmoil after Iran launched a “barrage of missiles” at Israel in response to joint US-Israeli strikes on Tehran. The Pentagon said the operation, dubbed “Operation Epic Fury,” targeted what it described as imminent threats linked to Iran’s military infrastructure.

The Israel Defense Forces said its air defence systems were intercepting incoming projectiles as sirens rang out across cities including Tel Aviv. Explosions were also reported in Gulf countries such as the UAE, Qatar and Bahrain, leading to sweeping airspace closures.

Attention turned to key US military facilities in the region, including Al Dhafra Air Base in Abu Dhabi and Al Udeid Air Base in Doha. Bahrain cited a missile threat near the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet headquarters, while one fatality was reported in the UAE.

US President Donald Trump announced “major combat operations,” calling the action necessary for national security. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the strikes as essential to counter an “existential threat.”

Internet access in Iran was significantly disrupted, and Israeli hospitals activated emergency protocols, as fears of a broader regional conflict intensified.
