Kiren Rijiju backs Bumrah’s mimicry, says Pakistan deserves it

Team India pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s celebratory ‘plane down’ gesture after dismissing Pakistan’s Haris Rauf in the Asia Cup final at Dubai has gone viral. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju shared a screenshot of Rauf’s off-stump and Bumrah’s iconic celebration, captioning it: “Pakistan deserves this punishment.”

India clinched the Asia Cup title for the ninth time with a five-wicket win over Pakistan. The tournament had been marked by controversies, including provocative gestures by Pakistani players and Team India’s decision to avoid shaking hands with the Men in Green following the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives and prompted Operation Sindoor.

During the Super Fours match, Rauf had mocked Indian fans with a ‘plane down’ gesture, referencing Pakistan’s disputed claims of downing six Indian jets. Bumrah’s dismissal of Rauf provided the perfect on-field reply, turning the moment viral.

The post-match presentation saw further drama as Team India refused to receive the trophy from Asian Cricket Council chief and Pakistani minister Mohsin Naqvi, who eventually walked off the stage while the Indian team celebrated their victory.
