A total shutdown has been enforced in areas of Manipur’s Churachandpur district after clashes erupted between youth protesters and security forces late last night. Kuki-Zo tribal groups have also announced a social boycott of Kuki-Zo legislators who joined the newly formed Manipur government led by Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh.
The boycott and dawn-to-dusk shutdown across Kuki-Zo inhabited hill areas were called to protest what groups described as a “betrayal” by the MLAs. The unrest began near the Tuibong Forest Gate, where protesters allegedly pelted stones, forcing security forces to retreat temporarily.

Sources said tear gas was used through the night, with two people injured and five detained. Clashes reportedly continued until early morning.
