The Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) has recommended to the Director of Health Services (DHS) to establish a round-the-clock healthcare service on Chorao Island within a period of 90 days, in view of the difficulties faced by residents in accessing timely medical assistance.
The Commission observed that the absence of a 24×7 healthcare facility on the island poses serious risks, particularly during medical emergencies, when patients have to depend on ferry services or travel long distances to reach hospitals on the mainland.

Taking note of these concerns, the GHRC directed the DHS to initiate necessary steps to ensure the setting up of a fully functional healthcare service operating кругл-the-clock, equipped with essential medical staff and facilities.
The Commission emphasised that access to basic and emergency healthcare is a fundamental right and urged the health authorities to treat the matter with priority in the interest of public welfare.
