India’s Asia Cup 2025 victory over Pakistan ended in dramatic controversy as the team refused to accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, the ACC chief and Pakistan Cricket Board chairman. Naqvi reportedly informed organisers that India could receive their medals only if a formal function was organised for him to present the awards—a demand unlikely to be met.
After India won the final by five wickets at Dubai International Stadium, the post-match presentation was delayed by 45 minutes. Individual awards went to players like Tilak Varma, Abhishek Sharma, and Kuldeep Yadav, while Pakistan players received runners-up cheques and medals. No trophy was presented to India, leading to a standoff.
Sources said the decision was collective, with the Indian team consulting BCCI officials, citing Naqvi’s repeated anti-India statements and provocative social media posts. The ACC failed to anticipate the situation, and the ceremony ended without the trophy handover, with Simon Doull announcing the team would not collect awards.
