“More Horrible Than a Horror Movie”: Ex-Bangladesh Minister Warns of Violence, Minority Attacks

Bangladesh’s former foreign minister Mohammed Hasan Mahmud has launched a sharp attack on the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus, warning of worsening violence, attacks on minorities and a “deeply compromised” election process ahead of the February 12 polls. In an interview, the senior Awami League leader described the current situation as “more horrible than a horror movie,” citing lynchings, attacks on Hindus and other minorities, and a breakdown of law and order.

Mahmud claimed the election would be “arranged” as the Awami League and its allies have been barred, despite surveys suggesting 50–60 per cent public support. He accused the interim administration of allowing fanatic and pro-Pakistani forces to gain influence, calling the crisis a regional security concern.
