Ola, Uber and Rapido rides were affected on Friday as app-based transport workers observed a day-long nationwide strike called the “All India Breakdown.” The strike, led by the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU), has been supported by national labour organisations. Drivers across the country have reportedly turned off their apps for at least six hours, leading to reduced availability of taxis, autos and bike taxis. Porter deliveries may also see interruptions.
The unions are pressing for minimum base fares and enforcement of the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines, 2025. They argue that aggregator companies continue to decide fares on their own, forcing drivers to work longer hours for declining income.

In its letter to Union minister Nitin Gadkari, the group said governments have failed to implement fare regulation despite clear guidelines. TGPWU founder Shaik Salauddin claimed platforms are transferring operational risks entirely onto workers while lowering prices arbitrarily.
Passengers are expected to face inconvenience, particularly in metro cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, where reliance on app-based rides is high.
