Rahul Gandhi Says Border Clash Remarks Based on Ex-Army Chief’s Memoir

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Monday clarified his remarks on the government’s handling of the 2020 China border clash after they sparked an uproar in Parliament. The Rae Bareilly MP said his comments were based on the perspective of former Army Chief General (retd) M M Naravane, as mentioned in the latter’s unpublished memoir.

Quoting the former Army Chief, Gandhi said he was merely referring to what was written in the book and not expressing his own opinion. He alleged that the memoir was not being allowed to be published and described it as “languishing.” Questioning the government, Gandhi asked why it was afraid of the former Army Chief’s views. The issue led to repeated disruptions in the Lok Sabha.
