US President Donald Trump has stirred debate by suggesting that it would be unfair for Iran to be denied ballistic missiles if other countries in the region are allowed to possess similar weapons.
Speaking to reporters in Paris on Wednesday, Trump said that military capabilities should be viewed in the context of regional balance, noting that several Middle Eastern nations already maintain ballistic missile arsenals.

“I’m saying that if other countries have them, it’s a little bit unfair for them not to have some,” Trump said.
Referring to Gulf nations such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar, he added, “If Saudi Arabia and Qatar, and they all have some, I would say in relative proportion, I think it’s okay.”
Trump also indicated that the United States plans to maintain its military presence in the Gulf for the foreseeable future, despite Washington recently reaching an agreement with Tehran aimed at ending nearly four months of conflict in the region.
“We’ll leave our military in the Gulf for a while,” the US President said, signalling that American forces will continue to play a role in maintaining regional stability following the ceasefire arrangement.
Trump’s remarks come amid ongoing discussions over security dynamics in the Middle East and are likely to draw attention from both allies and critics as efforts continue to preserve peace in the region.
