Jammu and Kashmir experienced unusual weather conditions on Wednesday, with a sharp drop in temperatures reported across the Union Territory. In a rare occurrence, Srinagar recorded colder daytime conditions than Jammu, as the maximum temperature in the Kashmir Valley fell nearly 10 degrees Celsius below the seasonal average, settling at 7.4 degrees Celsius.
Jammu city woke up to dense fog on Wednesday morning, accompanied by a significant dip in temperatures. The mercury in the winter capital plunged to 4 degrees Celsius, marking a stark contrast to the normal daytime temperature of around 17 degrees Celsius typically recorded during this period.
The region has been witnessing a cold wave over the past few days, with unusually low temperatures affecting daily life. Interestingly, even the snow-clad tourist destination of Gulmarg registered a comparatively higher temperature of 8.2 degrees Celsius, making it warmer than Jammu city.
Meteorological officials attribute the sudden chill to prevailing cold wave conditions, with further fluctuations in temperature expected in the coming days.
