PONDA: One person was killed and nine others were seriously injured when a Hyderabad-bound bus overturned and landed in the roadside nullah.
The accident that occurred at around 5:30 pm at Durgini in Dharbandora resulted in the driver dying on the spot.
Following the cries for help from the passengers in the bus, Collem police personnel rushed to their aid along with ambulances and paramedics.
While 26 injured passengers were treated at the Dharbandora Public Health Centre, nine who were seriously injured were rushed to the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) at Bambolim.
Those admitted at GMC had head injuries and fractures of hands or legs and also other bones. Some passengers are also admitted to the Sub-District Hospital at Ponda, it is learnt.
The bus apparently had three drivers as it was travelling a long distance, and it is suspected that the one at the wheels was under the influence of alcohol due to which the accident occurred causing the driver’s death.
Most of the passengers were from Telangana and only a few were from Goa.
The Collem police later conducted the panchanama and are conducting investigations.
