PANJIM: Ten candidates are in the fray for the North Goa Lok Sabha seat, as the deadline of filing the nomination ended Wednesday. State will go to the polls on April 12.
On the last date of filing nominations on Wednesday, three candidates filed their nominations ~ Dattaram Desai of the Aam Admi Party, Raju D’Souza of Samajwadi Janata Party and Ranjeet Singh Rane, an Independent.
Scrutiny of nominations will be held on March 27 and last day for withdrawal is March 29. The Election Commission announced the poll dates on March 5, the process of filing nominations began on March 19.
Majority of the national parties including BJP, Congress, AAP, Communist Party of India along with newly formed Goa Democratic Front and some Independent candidates have filed their nomination papers for North Goa seat.
BJP has re-nominated its three-time
sitting MP Shripad Naik, while Congress has fielded its former state Home Minister Ravi Naik. AAP, trying to establish its base in Goa has fielded former BJP cadre Dattaram Desai while CPI has nominated Suhaas Naik.
Newly formed GDF has fielded its President Dayanand Narvekar while Samajwadi Janata Party has nominated Raju D’Souza. The two independent candidates include ~ Mittu Mujavar and Ranjeet Singh Rane.
Congress and BJP both have fielded two dummy candidates ~ Amarnat Panjikar and Anil Hoble.
For the 16th Lok Sabha election, polling will be held at 1,622 polling stations. Total 10,57,499 voters would exercise their voting rights. Of the total, 5,92,920 voters are in North Goa and the rest in South Goa.
