CANACONA: At least eight passengers and two drivers were injured in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a container truck at Ghodemol Khadeem, Barcem, on Saturday at 10.45 am.
Cuncolim police said that the mishap occurred on NH66 at a sharp curve at Khaddem near Balli just before noon on Saturday.
The passenger bus was proceeding to Karwar from Margao, while the loaded container truck was proceeding in the opposite direction towards Margao when the accident happened.
“Both the drivers, unable to control their vehicles, rammed into each other,” eyewitnesses said.
The impact of the collision was such that the cabin of the bus on driver side was totally damaged while the tyre of the truck on the driver side burst.
The movement of traffic was disrupted for some time till the bus was towed away with the help of a crane.
The seriously injured bus driver Venktesh Yedigar, passengers Deshraj Thakur, Archana Fadte, Harsha Chari and Amrut Fadte have been admitted to Hospicio Hospital, Margao. And those who suffered minor injuries — Sanjay Moge, Rajesh and Arun Fadte and Shevanti Pagi — were discharged after first Aid at Balli Health Centre.
