10 lakh sq mtrs finalised for IIT at Sanguem, official announcement soon: Min

PANJIM: The State government has now finalised 10 lakh square metres of land in Sanguem taluka for setting up the proposed IIT and official announcement regarding the new site will be made by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant soon, informed Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Desai on Tuesday.

Phal Desai said that earlier land identified for the premier institute was rejected by the Centre stating that the land was insufficient and major portion of the land i.e. four lakh square metres of land was no-development slope.

“It is not because people have objected. The IIT site selection committee had rejected it was not sufficient,” the Minister said adding that now the adequate land has been identified for the project, which will come up in Sanguem, he reiterated.

“Almost it is in final stage now and at any point of time there will be official declaration from the department and by the Chief Minister by this month,” Phal Desai said.
