PONDA: Ten milk societies attached to Goa Dairy have submitted a memorandum to the Registrar of Cooperative Societies (RCS) proposing to run Goa Dairy’s cattle feed plant at Usgao which was shut down due to losses.
Addressing media persons, Ramesh Edathadan, chairman of St Andre Milk Producers Co-op Society Ltd, Goa Velha said since the past eight months Goa Dairy’s cattle feed plant has been shut due to losses. The plant ran into losses on account of the pending payment of Rs 13 crore towards the raw material supplied to Goa Dairy.
Chairmen of Pirna and Bicholim milk societies Govind Naik and Gurudas Parabat were also present.
He said to provide farmers with the cattle feed at a reasonable rate, the 10 societies are interested in running the cattle feed plant and a memorandum has been forwarded to RCS.
Claiming that one of the reasons Goa Dairy has incurred losses is mismanagement, he said for Goa Dairy’s survival, there is need to elect an honest, young, dynamic and experienced board of directors. He said presently the Goa Dairy administration is run by the government-appointed Administrative Committee. Stating that timely support, intervention and cooperation from the government is the need of the hour, he said excess recruitment of employees hit Goa Dairy badly.
