PANJIM: With the daily COVID positivity rate remaining high at 32.22 per cent, Goa reported another 1487 new cases on Wednesday. Also, as confirmed cases totalled 1,50,897, approximately 10 per cent of the State’s population has already been infected by COVID.
Directorate of Health Services (DHS) also reported 39 deaths, which takes the total number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic to 2,499. Of these, 37 took took place within 24 hours of Tuesday, while there was one death on May 24 and another on May 23.

Of the deaths, 24 took place at Goa Medical College (GMC), 6 at the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH), 1 was brought dead to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Quepem, 1 was brought dead to the Community Health Centre (CHC) and seven deaths took place at various private hospitals in South Goa (SMRC, Mother Care, Imperial Plus hospital and Victor Hospital)
DHS also stated that two of the persons who succumbed to COVID-19, had taken one dose of the vaccine while there was one patient who had received both doses.
Meanwhile, 1,363 persons were also reported to have recovered and the daily recovery rate is now at 87.88 per cent.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant tweeted that as on Wednesday evening, there were 913 vacant oxygen beds in hospitals across the State. DHS reported that 134 persons had been discharged from hospitals, while another 165 patients were hospitalised.
Another 1322 patients were placed under home isolation within the last 24 hours and 4615 samples were tested during the same period.
The total active cases are now at 15,791 with the Urban Health Centre (UHC) Margao having the highest number of active cases at 1502 and the only one above 1000. PHC Ponda (920). PHC Chimbel (820), UHC Panjim (817), PHC Candolim (801), PHC Porvorim (675), PHC Cortalim (608), CHC Curchorem (560) and PHC Siolim (510) have above 500 cases.
