VASCO: Ten students were injured in a stampede at Vidya Mandir School, Chicalim on Saturday. All students were in the fifth and sixth standard.
“Due to a power failure, the school’s Teachers’ Day function was postponed to after recess. Without the knowledge of teachers, a group of students climbed up a flight of stairs to the third floor and while returning, they bumped into students who were going up to the third floor. Some students slipped down the stairs and suffered minor injuries,” said principal Satish Chodankar.
Teachers rushed to the third floor and referred the students to a hospital as they complained of pain. Around eight students were taken to Cottage Hospital, Chicalim where they were examined and discharged after receiving first aid.
“No one had any visible injuries, but they were complaining of pain in their legs and back. Also, the students were in shock after the incident. After we informed them that there was no need to worry, the students gradually calmed down,” said a doctor at Cottage Hospital.
