10 train carriages derail

MARGAO/CANACONA: Ten carriages of the Duronto Express train derailed in Sarzora near the Balli railway station on Sunday Morning. No serious injuries were reported.

 The train was heading from Lokmanya Tilak terminus, Mumbai to Ernakulam, Kerala.
Konkan Railway’s public relations officer Babam Ghatge said that the cause of the derailment was still unknown. The train’s passengers will be taken to their destination in a special train, accompanied by officers and staff of the Konkan Railway. A full refund will also be given to them.
Work is on in full swing at the site for restoration of the train. “As many as 155 labourers and about a hundred KR officials, including Director (operating and commercial) Sanjay Gupta and Principal Chief Engineer Rajesh Agarwal are at the site to attend to restoration of coaches and the track under the guidance of CMD/KRCL,” said Ghatge.
Seven coaches were re-railed by evening.

Ghatge added, “As a special gesture to the stranded passengers of train no. 12133 CSTM-Mangalore Express, which was partially cancelled at Madgaon station in Down direction due to the derailment, Konkan Railway has arranged for a full refund of fare to the passengers rather than partial refund as per extant rules for the untravelled portion of the journey.”
He also said that Konkan Railway arranged for five buses for trans shipment of passengers and has till now refunded over Rs 2.56 lakh to the passengers who opted out of their train journey.
