10 trees uprooted, 3 houses and a building damaged in Salcete

MARGAO: Heavy rains accompanied by strong wind, which lashed villages of Salcete Taluka uprooted several trees and damaged three houses and a building, besides causing damages to electrical poles. Margao Fire Station office on Friday attended to 10 calls and all the trees were cleared.

According to Margao Fire Station Officer Gil Souza a tree fell on the house at Military Camp Monte Hill, Margao, causing damages. Leading fire fighter M B Velip carried out the operation. Another banyan tree fell on a house at Agali, Fatorda, causing damages. A team led by Sub Officer N V Takkar rushed to the spot and the tree was cleared and the road was cleared for vehicular traffic.

In the third incident, a mango tree fell on the house near Ashka petrol pump at Arlem, Fatorda, causing damage. The loss was estimated at Rs 10,000.

Leading fire fighter S K G Dessai visited the place along with his team and cleared the tree. Margao Station Fire Officer Gil D’Souza said that a bhendi tree fell on the road near a bridge near Fab India showroom at Fatorda and needed an expert tree cutter. 

Margao Fire Station attended all the 10 calls which they received on Friday and all the calls were attended to and vehicular traffic was cleared.
