10-yr-old braveheart comes to the rescue of three drowning children

SANKHALI: A 10-year-old braveheart Ankurkumar Sanjay Prasad, Class IV student of Government Primary School, Cumbharjua saved the lives of three children from drowning in a river, recently.

According to sources, palanquin of Shri Shantadurga Kumbharjuvekarin visits every house in the village during Gulal festival. On Saturday, March 25, around 3.30 pm, the palanquin was at Suruchebhat, Cumbharjua, when the villagers were busy welcoming the Goddess and performing rituals. Few children, who were playing Gulal at the venue, decided to wash off the colours from their eyes and face in the water of the nearby river.

Vijaykumar, Aryan and Mukesh, while washing colour off their eyes on the bank of the river, slipped and fell into the river. None of them knew how to swim and were noticed by Ankurkumar, who was riding a bicycle nearby. 

With his efforts to alert the locals failed, Ankurkumar himself decided to help the drowning children since he knew how to swim. He also performed chest compressions on Vijaykumar, who was later admitted to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim. Now, he is out of danger.

Ankurkumar was showered with praise by school teachers and fellow students when the news made it to his school. A native of Bihar, he currently resides at Cumbharjua with his parents and a sister. Locals have urged the panchayat to take notice of his courage.
