10-yr-old braveheart to be recommended for Nat Bravery Award

PORVORIM: A 10-year old boy- Ankurkumar, who saved three of his friends from drowning in a rivulet in Cumbharjua, would be recommended for National Bravery Award, the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced on the Floor of the House on Friday. 

The House unanimously congratulated Ankurkumar for his bravery. He was among those eminent personalities including the Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar, who completed one year in chair, who were congratulated by the House for their achievements in various fields. 

Earlier in the day, Sawant met Ankurkumar and his family and wished him  a bright future. He was awarded Rs one lakh by the State government as a token of appreciation. 

“It was a pleasure to meet the brave young boy, who saved three children from drowning with his timely action. Goa is proud of his presence of mind and bravery,” he said. 

The boy was also honoured by the leader of opposition Yuri Alemao. 

It may be reacalled that Vijaykumar, Aryan and Mukesh, who were washing the colour off their eyes on the bank of the river, slipped and fell into the river. None of them knew how to swim and were noticed by Ankurkumar, who was riding a bicycle nearby. 

With his efforts to alert the locals failed, Ankurkumar himself decided to help the drowning children and rescued all the three.
