VASCO: Protesting the hike in fuel prices, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) leader Sankalp Amonkar and his supporters in a unique gesture gathered near the petrol pump on Wednesday and distributed fuel at Rs 50 per litre to over 100 rickshaw and motorcycle pilots from Vasco.
A group of protestors led by Amonkar demanded that the government should cut down the prices and the tax levied on the fuel.
Speaking to media persons, Amonkar reminded that when the Congress government was at the Centre, the BJP leaders were claiming that if BJP comes to power then they will bring down the fuel prices, but now when the BJP government is at the Centre, the fuel prices have skyrocketed.
“The government has not given a serious thought to the people in the budget, the fuel prices in other States have reached almost Rs 100 per litre and in Goa petrol price is Rs 83,” Sankalp claimed.
Meanwhile, some rickshaw drivers and pilots complained that their businesses have been affected by the fuel price hike and added that the fare price and the fuel price hike is not feasible.
