PORVORIM: Directorate of Education on Tuesday said it will be recruiting 100 primary teachers for government schools for the academic year 2018-19.
Speaking to Herald, Education Director G P Bhat said, “These vacancies have come as many teachers have retired from services. We have already moved a file for the approval of the State government for recruiting about 98 to 100 primary school teachers for government schools.”
He added, “Earlier as a result of amalgamation of schools no new teachers were recruited but now as teachers have retired the department will be recruiting new teachers.”
He further said that the department has received 24 applications for opening of schools for the academic year 2018-19 after DoE had extended the deadline for submission of fresh applications.
“We have received 24 applications for opening of new schools out of which 9 are for high schools while 15 are for primary schools. All nine applications received for starting high schools are for English while applications for primary schools are for Konkani, Marathi, Sanskrit and Urdu,” he said.
DoE has made it clear that permissions for new schools will be based on feasibility reports. “The feasibility reports will be prepared and officials will decide on the status of these applications at a meeting,” sources said.
