PANJIM: As many as 100 women artisans backed by Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress took out a morcha to the office of the Development Commissioner of Handicrafts Corporation for allegedly failing to issue artisans cards to women artists from Mandrem constituency.
The morcha led by Mahila Congress President Pratima Coutinho marched to the office protesting injustice meted out to around 558 women artisans. They demanded release the artisans cards, which were issued thereafter, Coutinho informed Herald.
The Goa Handicrafts Rural and Small Scale Industries Development Corporation stated that it identifies budding and talented persons in Goa who have keen interest in producing handicraft items based on Goan Art and Culture; and they are imparted training in batches. The sole objective of developing handicrafts artisans is to make them self-employed by producing the handicrafts items for which the corporation extends marketing outlets.
