PANJIM: As the State government is set for the launch of the ‘Har Ghar Fiber’ scheme, connecting each household with an Internet network, the Department of Information Technology (IT) has proposed to introduce 10,000 WiFi hotspots across the State to ensure seamless digital connectivity.
Addressing mediapersons on Monday, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that the government has already taken the lead to launch the ‘Har Ghar Fiber’ scheme, under which each household will be connected to an Internet network.
“The scheme will be launched soon. Everything has been finalised,” Sawant said while informing that spots are identified for free WiFi.
Elaborating in detail on the WiFi initiative, IT Minister Rohan Khaunte said that the department will set up public WiFi network at 10,000 access points across State.
“I have already announced in the Assembly session that all the constituencies will be covered with WiFi. Accordingly, three MLAs have already submitted proposals identifying hotspots,” he said.
Khaunte said that all public places and government offices will be covered under the scheme.
“Internet has become like a fundamental right. Now, with everything shifting to the online working ecosystem, it is important that every household and public place have internet connectivity,” he said.
