PANJIM: The 108 Ambulance Workers Union on Thursday decided to go on strike in the next two days, if the Directorate of Health Services does not reinstate the suspended employee, who was on board the ambulance which broke down and in turn resulted in the death of an individual, at Chorla Ghat.
“Why does the government and health department not maintain the ambulance? How is the employee responsible for the death? The management is responsible for this incident. After the incident most of the ambulances have been taken off for maintenance, it is the fault of the government and management,” said 108 Workers Union General Secretary Prasad Naik.
“We had earlier complained to the management to maintain and service the ambulances, but nothing was done,” Naik asked.
“The management is responsible for the death, as there was a breakdown of the vehicle due to non maintenance. Why has the management suspended me for no fault of mine?” asked the suspended employee.
The union has intimated to the Health Department to reinstate the employee within two days and failure would lead to a strike.
A youth, who suffered critical injuries in an accident at Chorla Ghat on Monday, died after a 108 ambulance, which was supposed to shift him to hospital for medical attention, broke down at the accident site.
