10MLD water treatment plant opened at Panchwadi

PONDA: Reiterating Manohar Parrikar-led government’s promise to provide round-the-clock water supply to Goans, PWD Minister Sudin Dhavlikar said that this promise has become subject of laughter for some people and political parties but the Government is committed to fulfil it. 
He was speaking after inaugurating the 10 MLD Water Treatment Plant at Mhaisal Panchawadi Dam in Shiroda constituency on Sunday. 
The project, which took seven years to complete following several hurdles, has been constructed at a cost of Rs 53 crore.  Out 10 MLD of water, 8 MLD will be supplied to Shiroda, Borim and the remaining 2 MLD will be supplied to Savordem Constituency. 
This is the seventh water treatment plant in the state.
He said Government will spend Rs 23 crore for laying water pipeline from Sanguem to Netravali and added that 5 MLD treatment plant will be set up at Netravali to meet the water requirement of locals, the work of which is expected to commence soon. 
He said 5 MLD plant will be set up at Mashem while Pollem will receive 5 MLD from 15 MLD plant at Shristhal, Cancona.  
He informed that the 20 MLD treatment plant at Verna has been completed and 100 MLD plant will be set up in Sanguem in addition to the existing 180 MLD Water treatment plant at Selaulim.
At Opa Khandepar, 27 MLD water treatment plant will be completed in December in addition to the existing 140 MLD water treatment plant supplying water to Panjim and Ponda. 
Besides, 25 MLD Treatment Plant will be constructed at Ganjem, Usgao for which land has been acquired. 
At Collem, with efforts of local Dhangars, a place has been provided in the hilly area for the construction of a storage tank.  
Following the inauguration of Mhaisal Dam, 5 MLD water supply to Shiroda will be stopped and the same will provided to Ponda and Tiswadi. 
From Selaulim, 10 MLD will be supplied to Ponda by putting to use the old existing pipeline, which help improve water supply in Marcaim, Borim and Ponda.
He said for North Goa, the Government had already approved finance for 20 MLD plant. 30 MLD Plant will be set up at Pernem Industrial Estate and preliminary process for the same is in progress.  20 MLD treatment plant will be set up at Porvorim and tender will be opened in next month. The government will upgrade the Assonora, Padoshem  and OPA water treatment plants and added that 5 MLD Plant will come up at Sal. 
He said currently water supply in Goa has been affected as most treatment plants in Goa are facing power failures.
