PANJIM: Eleven persons were arrested and five tankers attached from two places in Sancoale when Crime Branch swooped down on a diesel and furnaoil siphoning racket, police said Saturday.
The raids were conducted early Saturday afternoon based on a tip off from reliable sources. Five persons are however still absconding
A case has been booked under Section 379 of IPC, Explosives Act, Petroleum Act, and Essential Commodities Act.
Police appear to be tight lipped on whether this is part of a larger conspiracy saying that the matter needs to be investigated.
Among the arrested were Rafiq Beig, Murtaza Sheikh, Satish Naik all of Margao, Salim Khan of Baina Vasco, Krishna Naik, Mamdu Sheikh, Vancoba Dhuri, Ramesh Lamani, Virendra Madar, Jaiswal Pujari and Hakim. Mehboob, Mulla Gaus, John Tellis, Girish and Bhaiyya are absconding.
