PANJIM, APRIL 22
Eleven candidates who were declared ineligible by the High Court administration to appear for main examination for the posts of Civil Judge Division and Judicial Magistrate First Class have gone to High Court.
One Deepali Naik and ten other candidates have filed a writ petition pointing out that they were declared ineligible on the ground that language certificate produced by them was “not in terms of the advertisement”.
According to them advertisement for the posts required that candidates should be fluent in Konkani language however certificates issued by the Principal District Judge, North Goa declared that they possessed only workable knowledge of Konkani. Therefore, they had been declared ineligible.
When the matter came up for hearing on Thursday afternoon, Senior Counsel Saresh Lotlikar representing petitioners submitted that all the petitioners are born and brought up in Goa and poses sound knowledge of their mother tongue. But on the basis of the certificates issued, they were declared ineligible.
He further submitted that decision declaring petitioners ineligible should be withdrawn and also, the written exams which are scheduled to be held on April 25, should be stayed until pendency of the petition.
Upon which a Division Bench of Justice S J Vazifdar and Justice U D Salvi enquired with High Court Registrar, Kumari I K Jain if it would be possible to allow petitioners to appear for the written exams.
Jain sought adjournment saying she would have to take instructions on the issue. The Court adjourned hearing till April 24 considering urgency of the matter as written exam is slated to be held on April 25.
