VASCO: Fire fighters fought hard throughout the night and even on Friday to douse the major fire, though it continued to simmer at some parts of the store of the Herald printing press.
According to the deputy director of the fire and emergency services, Nitin Raikar, who was present at the site along with his team since the fire broke out, 11 fire-tenders from all major cities across Goa (except for Cancona and Pernem/Kundaim/Bicholim/Valpoi and Old Goa) with over 90 firefighters from all major fire stations worked tirelessly to bring the blaze under control. “It was a major blaze as the paper rolls kept in the store had caught fire. We used over 70 refill tankers to douse the flames, operations, however, are still on at the site as flames can be seen at some corners inside the shed. The losses are yet to be assessed. Two JCBs were used to remove the debris,” he said. Meanwhile, upon receiving request, the naval authorities had send their fire tenders from INS Hansa to the site.
