BICHOLIM: North Goa MP Shripad Naik on Friday said that even if there is no chance of simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies, 11 States might go to polls next year.
Speaking to media persons at Bicholim, Naik stated that there was no consensus on simultaneous elections; so, there cannot be simultaneous elections.
“There are five states which will go to elections along with the Lok Sabha. But if another two or three States that have elections in near future are clubbed together then, about 11 States would simultaneously go for elections with the Lok Sabha,” Naik said.
“The move of having simultaneous elections was good as today we see that if there is election due to code of conduct and other arrangements all the developments works are halted. It leads to lot of wastage of time,” Naik said.
“Because of this, the Modi government had started disbursing the funds on April 1, which helped the development. This provided a grace period for the developmental work to be carried out. Earlier, it was given in September and we were getting only about six months to finish the works,” Naik said.
He emphasised that the proposal for simultaneous elections was mooted only for the development of the country.
