PORVORIM: As many as 115 foreign nationals are booked and arrested by Goa police for staying in Goa without valid documents including visa in last three and half years. The numbers of foreigners staying illegal have seen a sharp rise since 2015.
In information provided on the Floor of the House, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said that 115 foreigners are arrested for staying without valid documents and majority of them are facing conviction since 2015 till date.
This year till June, 19 foreigners are booked and arrested and majority of them are Nigerian nationals. There are also residents of Hungaria, Tanzania, Russia and Afghanistan.
In the year 2015, 15 foreigners were found staying illegally, which went upto 29 in 2016 and to 52 in 2017.
In 41 cases, there have been conviction, while the rest are pending trial and under investigation. The foreigners include those from Russia, Nigeria, Afghanistan, UK.
