PANJIM: Continuing its drive against Bangladeshi nationals residing illegally in the State, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of the Goa Police detained 12 such nationals staying in a rented room at Merces.
The custody of the detained persons has been given to Old Goa Police and they have been detained at their residence.
The ATS conducted investigation after receiving credible information that two families suspected to be of Bangladeshi origin were residing in rented rooms at Vaddy, Merces. The ATS team then visited the place and detained them.
The Old Goa Police have provided the information of the detainees to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) for further procedure. Sources said that there are several Bangladeshi nationals running businesses in the State, especially in villages.
