12 Commandments for 12 Months

Herald lists out the 12 priorities that the government should follow as commandments in the 12 months of 2015

Garbage Management: Besides cleaner living spaces, setting up garbage treatment plants should be the State’s priority with the Nitoll Goem slogan converted into action.
Regional Plan: The Regional Plan has to be finalized and notified so that there is neither any ambiguity, nor are loopholes exploited, when issuing licences to projects.
Industry: The investment and industrial policy has to be growth oriented and ensure that the State’s natural resources are maintained.
Mining: Restart mining operations, but with enough checks to ensure sustainable and controlled mining, that takes the environment into consideration.
War On Drugs: Launch immediate and sustained action on the narcotics’ trade that ends the sale of drugs in Goa.
Tourism: Rationalizati- on of taxi fares, along with tapping new foreign markets to maintain tourist flow.
People’s Involvement: A bottom’s up approach in planning, where panchayats and gram sabhas are taken into confidence when planning development projects.
Road Infrastructure: Better quality roads, wider highways, a new bridge over the River Zuari should be on the priority list.
Environment: Protecting the State’s fragile environment and its forest cover, and ensuring that what existed in 2014 is not destroyed in 2015.
Education: Exploring the possibility of promoting the State as an education hub, by inviting top institutes of higher education to Goa.
Health: A wider network of health centres with competent and capable staff that takes health care to the people’s vicinity, reducing the pressure on the GMC.
Security: Making Goa safe by reducing crime and increasing people’s confidence in the police force.
