MARGAO: Twelve panchayats in Salcete have not held their regular gram sabhas as yet even though they were supposed to have them in the month of January and we are in March now.
As per the Goa Panchayat Raj Act, all the panchayats are supposed to have four regular gram sabhas in a year with the first one to be held on any Sunday of the month of January. The other three regular gram sabhas are to be held on any Sunday of the months of April, July and October.
Incidentally, the gram sabhas have to also approve the budget for the next financial year as prepared by the panchayat body. Incidentally Chandor-Cavorim gram sabha resolved to approve the budget at an extraordinary gram sabha.
As per records at the BDO Salcete office, village panchayats that have not held the regular gram sabha in the month of January or February are: Ambelim, Assolna, Betalbatim, Camurlim, Cavelossim, Colva, Loutolim, Navelim, Orlim, Sao Jose de Areal, Telaulim and Velim.
