12 shopkeepers penalised for violating COTPA

Vasco: The Enforcement squad of Mormugao carried out a surprise drive to check whether the rules of Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003 (COTPA) are being violated and penalised 12 establishments which included restaurants, banks, fast food stalls and general stores. All 12 violators were fined Rs 200 each totalling the amount to Rs 2400 for violation Section 4 and 6 (a).

Mormugao Enforcement squad which consisted of Mormugao joint-Mamlatdar Rosario Carvalo, GOACAN convener Roland Martins, circle inspector Surendra Kerkar and Vasco health center’s sanitary inspector Dayanand Thakkar.

Some of the sellers were found to have not put up the no smoking boards in proper places as per COTPA.
