QUEPEM: A modern sports complex at Borimol, Quepem, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and inaugurated in 2011 is still awaiting a permanent power connection.
The sports complex includes a football ground, jogging track, gymnasium, indoor multipurpose hall for games like badminton and table-tennis, and a swimming pool.
Quepem MLA Altone D’Costa while inspecting the sports complex said that the power supply connection for the Borimol Sports Complex is still temporary, which really is a part of concern.
During this visit, Surendra Faldesai, Executive Engineer SAG Deepak Lotlikar, Prasad Velip, Rajesh Naik, Monica Dourado, in incharge of Quepem Sports complex John Fernandes and Quepem Congress block president Avdhoot Amonkar were present during the inspection.
With regards to the complaints on badminton floor, Altone accepted that there are issues related to badminton floor which will be rectified at the earliest.
“Complaints with regard to badminton floor would be dealt with after the inspection. We have also received several complaint with regards to the swimming pool which will be also taken care of. We will see to it that no further complaints are received on the facilities in complex”, D’Costa said.
“We’re working to make this complex even more convenient,” he added.
When asked about the walking track, the MLA said that it is a work in progress and will be completed at the earliest.
Chairperson of Quepem Municipality Suchita Shirwaikar said, “It is the responsibility of Sports Authority of India to look after the problems faced by the Borimol Sports Complex”.
“Sports Authority of India is looking after the maintenance of the complex as such it is their responsibility to take permanent power connection”, she added.
