PANJIM: Some 120 teachers under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan who have served for over nine years in different talukas went on strike from Monday demanding regularisation of their services as has been done in other states.
Goa Para-Teachers Association president Ajitsingh Rane said the teachers have been demanding regularisation of services as they have completed ten years in service. “This protest will continue even after the Assembly session ends if the demands are not met. A final decision will be taken on March 18,” Rane said.
He said it is sad to see that the government is giving priority to new recruits, while ignoring teachers who have been serving for over nine years in different primary schools.
The Association in September last year held massive demonstrations in Panjim putting forward their demands; however, it yielded no results. Even after assurance from the government last year, the teachers are still on contract instead of their services being regularised.
