MARGAO: Forest officials have booked unknown persons for illegally felling 120 trees in Raia, on Saturday.
On receiving a complaint that 120 tree had been cut down in Raia, the Forest Officials of Salcete Range had inspected the place on Saturday. After the inspection, Range Forest officer Siddhesh Gawade said that around 120 stumps of cut trees were found at the site and a land mass of nearly a hectare containing trees was razed down by unknown persons.
The Forest Officials have registered an offence under Section 8 of Preservation of Trees Act and are in pursuit of the owner of the land from which the trees were cut.
