PANJIM:A total of 1,270 nomination papers were filed on the penultimate day for the general panchayat elections slated for August 10.
With this, the total number of nominations filed for 186 village panchayats till date have mounted to 4,724.
The highest number, 245 nominations, were received for the 33 village panchayats of Bardez taluka followed by 220 nominations for the 33 village panchayats of Salcete taluka, 160 nominations for 18 village panchayats from Tiswadi taluka and 139 for 19 village pachayats from Ponda taluka.
The other nominations received taluka-wise were as follows: Sattari- 89; Pernem- 80; Quepem- 73; Mormugao- 71; Bicholim- 69; Sanguem- 48; Canacona- 44 and Dharbandora- 31.
Monday, July 25 is the last day to file nomination papers, according to the State Election Commission (SEC).
