PANJIM: The State has recorded 13 fatalities and 305 road accidents in October month. The Directorate of Transport’s monthly report on the number of accidents for October 2018 reveals that eight fatal accidents in the North and five in the South was reported for October whereas 26 were grievous accidents (North Goa – 8 and South Goa – 18), 76 were minor (NG – 22 and SG – 54) and 190 non-injury accidents (NG – 106 and SG – 84). The total number of people who lost their lives in road accidents were 14 (North Goa – 9 and South Goa – 5) were also reported from different parts of the State.
“Nine riders and three pedestrians were amongst others who lost their lives in these accidents. From the total accidents, 67 persons were grievously injured while 113 persons suffered minor injuries,” the monthly report released to the media on Thursday states.
As the year comes to en end, the Traffic and Transport Departments claim the State reported significant drop in road accident deaths. The total number of accidents has also shown a decline, although figures for November and December are still being compiled.
Data released by Transport Department indicates that 3,163 accidents were reported from January to October 2017 while the corresponding period this year recorded 3,054 accidents, a drop of 109 accidents.
