MAPUSA: Calangute Police arrested 13 persons in connection with the alleged murder of 30-year-old Shamshad Khan (Malik), a native of Uttar Pradesh, at Calangute on Sunday night.
According to Calangute Police, 23-year-old Sumit Jaiswal, a Delhi native and currently working as a waiter at a private shack in Calangute in his complaint stated that late Sunday night at around 10 pm, around 15-17 unknown persons formed an unlawful assembly and assaulted him with wooden sticks, iron pipes and iron rod causing him serious head injuries.
The complainant further stated that the accused further assaulted his co-worker Shamshad Khan resulting in his death.
Police sources informed that Shamshad had gone searching for the associate of the accused, who had taken Rs 2,500 in cash from him.
The associate had promised to sell Shamshad a phone, which he failed to do so. Following this, the associate along with a group of people had argument with Shamshad and assaulted him, which resulted in his death.
The State Forensic Science Team was pressed into service.
Meanwhile, SP North Utkrisht Prasoon and SDPO Porvorim Edwin Colaco visited the crime spot.
Calangute Police conducted the panchanama and seized the weapons used in the crime. All the accused were produced for medical examination before the Police Surgeon at Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim and later before the Mapusa JMFC.
