Margao: Members of the core committee of vector-borne disease control programme along with representatives of the Margao health centre and senior officials of the district tadministration on Thursday inspected the district hospital work site.
The team had found over 30 cases of malaria till date among labourers at the site and nearly 13 cases during the inspection.
The deputy director of the vector-borne disease control programme, Chandrakant Porob, health officer, Marth Fernandes, joint mamlatdar Snehal Prabhu, labour contractor at the district hospital were present during the inspection.
“Till date, over 37 cases have been detected. Some have carried the infection from other states,” Porob said.
“We have to act now and cannot allow it to spread. The contractor, too, needs to take precaution,” said the chief of the committee.
Lorna Fernandes, secretary, GoaCAN, who is also on the core committee of the task force of vector-borne disease control programme was also present.
She said, “We had come to take stock of the situation and see what systems were pressed into service to tackle the menace. We have found breeding sites and have given instructions to clear them,” said Lorna. “A full-time team has to be formed to ensure that the infections don’t spread,” Lorna concluded.
