MARGAO: A 13-year-old minor girl from Tamil Nadu has complained of rape after she was allegedly taken to the sky-bus platform near the Margao railway station on Sunday evening.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday evening when an unknown person took the girl in a rickshaw to the railway premises and later allegedly raped her.
She is believed to have told the police and a women’s NGO that after she was left alone, she went to the Margao Railway Station where she was spotted by the Railway Protection Force personnel, who handed her over to the Konkan Railway Police.
It is learnt that the Konkan Railway Police intimated the incident to women’s rights activist Auda Viegas, who spoke to the girl to know what exactly happened. She was again interrogated on Monday morning, where she is reported to have narrated the sequence of events. The police said the girl has given two different statements and they are in the process of verifying the same.
When contacted, Margao PI Sudesh Naik said the Margao police were intimated of the incident by the railway police after the girl was found on the railway station platform. “As per preliminary inquiries, the girl has complained that she was taken to the sky-bus platform in a rickshaw before being raped. We have sent the girl for medical examination. We are in the process of registering an offence of rape,” PI Naik said.
It is learnt that the Margao police has also received a report on the girl going missing since Sunday evening. Her parents are believed to be working as loaders in the wholesale fish market.
