137 nominations on Tuesday takes the count to 324 for April 23 polls

PANJIM: The State Election Commission (SEC) on Tuesday received 137 nominations for the upcoming April 23 civic polls across five municipalities—Mapusa, Margao, Mormugao, Sanguem and Quepem. Two days to go for the nomination process to end, 324 aspirants have filed their candidature thus far. 

Since March 31, a total of 324 nominations have been filed for 93 wards, of which 265 are filed in four municipalities from South Goa while 59 in North.  In the five municipalities, covering 93 wards, the polling will take place across 230 polling booth and 124 polling stations. 

Mormugao have received highest 93 nominations so far, followed by 79 in Margao and 62 in Quepem. The Mapusa municipal council has got 59 nominations while 31 have filed in Sanguem. 

The scrutiny of applications will take place on April 9, while the withdrawal of candidature, if any, will be allowed on April 10.

Meanwhile, for by-elections to the Ward II of Karapur-Sarvan village panchayat in Bicholim taluka total two nominations have been filed and ward IV of Veim village panchatyat in Salcete taluka also received two nominations.
