14 more lose battle to COVID, as 2 MLAs test positive

St Cruz, Mandrem MLAs infected by the virus; State claims recovery of 78.91%

PANJIM/MAPUSA: Goa lost another 14 lives on Monday to COVID-19, of which three were brought dead taking the death toll to 304. The day also saw two MLAs testing positive for the virus.

St Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes and Mandrem MLA Dayanand Sopte tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday. While Fernandes has been admitted at Manipal hospital, Sopte has isolated himself at home

According to sources, Sopte on Monday had undergone a medical checkup at a private hospital at Dona Paula and initially underwent antigen testing where he tested negative. Following that he underwent a RT PCR test and it  came positive. Sources said that Sopte’s family is yet to undergo testing.

The State on Monday reported 306 new cases, while 519 recoveries were reported. The State now has 78.91 per cent recovery. The total confirmed cases are 24,898 and active cases are 4,946. The recoveries stand at 19,648.

Interestingly, testing on Monday came down to 1093, and total testing till date stands at 2,25,910.

The 14 deaths were of 68-year-old woman from Sanquelim, a 64-year-old woman from Navelim, a 54-year-old woman from Vasco, a 72-year-old man from Betim, a 38-year-old man from Sangolda, a 94-year-old man from Vasco, a 72-year-old man from Guirim, a 61-year-old male from Keri, Pernem, a 65-year-old man from Old Goa, a 65-year-old man from St Cruz, a 71-year-old man from Bicholim all of who had co-morbidities.

Three patients brought dead were a 26-year-old man from Paroda, a 45-year-old man from Seraulim Salcete and a 66-year-old man from Sanvordem.

Meanwhile, 25 new cases were detected in Pernem taluka on Monday. Tuem recorded nine new cases followed by six cases in Pernem town. There were two cases each at Keri, Mandrem and Arambol and one case each at Parsem, Korgao, Warkhand and Virnoda.
