14 pine trees uprooted due to soil erosion at Galgibaga

CANACONA: While soil erosion has raised concerns at Talpona, Canaguinim and Benaulim beaches, Galgibaga is the latest beach to get affected by soil erosion.

At least 14 pine trees have been the latest victims as they were uprooted due to the soil erosion.
While the neighbouring residents are worried about what’s in store, environmentalists are worried about the consequences this will have to the famous turtle nesting site.
Locals have demanded that the government take cognizance of the soil erosion and take precautionary measures to protect the beach from further damage, since it is an official turtle nesting site.  They also demanded that the government look into the causes for the uprooting of the trees; and called for construction of a retaining wall to prevent further soil erosion.
